TriVector Services Sponsors 2018 Tennessee Valley BEST Competition
on Friday, 26 October 2018.
On October 13, 2018, Dr. Willie Fitzpatrick and IT intern Riley Bong (pictured) represented TriVector Services during Calhoun Community College’s Tennessee Valley BEST (TVB) competition at the campus’s Kelly Gymnasium. TriVector was one of the sponsors for this event for the second year in a row, and Riley participated in the competition on the Bob Jones High School team.
TVB is a STEM-centered competition developed from a partnership between Calhoun and Auburn University. Through the Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology (BEST) program, students have the opportunity to work in teams to apply the technology learned in the program to solve complex design problems. The TVB’s mission is to reach out to K-12 STEM students across North Alabama and South-Central Tennessee through school’s participations in BEST Robotics. This year, nine teams participated in the competition, and the Decatur Austin Robotics Coalition (DARC), which is comprised of students from Decatur and Austin High Schools, was the winner of the TVB Game Day. DARC will be joined by the second place finisher, Lindsay Lane Christian Academy of Athens, and the third place finisher, Lincoln County Middle School of Fayetteville, TN, to compete the 2018 South’s BEST Regional Robotics Competition in Auburn December 1-2.
“This was another exciting year for the TVB competition,” says Dr. Willie Fitzpatrick. “I always enjoy the interesting and creative design approaches each team develops to maximize their scoring during the robotics portions of the competition.”
